AcademicsPhonics: We are continuing with R-controlled words. This week’s pattern will be words with er, ir, and ur. Spelling lists go home on Mondays. Reading: We are continuing to read different fairy tales, fables, and legends. We will recount stories and determine their central message, lesson, or moral. Students will compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (ex: Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures. Writing: Students will write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, and provide a concluding statement. We will continue to strengthen our writing by revising and editing with guidance from adults and peers. Math: We will continue adding and subtract 10 or 100 to a numbers up to 1,000. Then we will move on to adding 4 two-digit numbers. Students will do this by looking for facts they know in each column (doubles facts, making 10 facts, etc.) Social Studies: We will be looking at the life of Jackie Robinson and his contributions to the Civil Rights movements. We was the first African American major league baseball player. He helped integrate major league baseball. Upcoming DatesJanuary 20: MLK JR.
