This week we have an early release day on 8/29/18. On early release days, our lunch will be 11:00-11:25. Our specials will be 10:20-10:50. Dismissal will be at 12:30. Please be sure to send in "change of transportation" information if needed. Don't forget that Scholastic book orders are due on 8/31/18. Our class code is LKPG6. Please visit https://clubs.scholastic.com/ to place your orders! Welcome to Moby Max! We took the placement tests for math & language today in the computer lab. Based on their results they have been assigned lesson to work through. In addition to Get Epic, this is a resource you could log into at home & practice with. This week we are learning about asking questions in reading! We ask questions if we are curious, to help us understand, if we are confused, or to predict what will happen. Also, we might wonder aloud a lot during a story. For example, I wonder if....
This week in spelling we are covering open syllables & the sounds of Y. Here's the chart we made together in class, as well as some videos that are helpful for understanding these concepts. You may also notice that students have a "Speller's Choice Menu" in their resource pocket. This is something you could use to help them study for their spelling tests. If you ever feel like their list is too easy, encourage them to choose more challenge words next week. :)
Don't forget that this Thursday is Multicultural Night!

Check out these Magic E videos throughout the week to be reminded of how it can boss around vowels & make them say their names. Don't forget, we'll have a spelling practice test Thursday.

Please read this parent letter about how spelling will work this year. There is also a hard copy in their binder. Each week there will be two required sight words & then students will select 8 of their own spelling words from our list. Please look for their personalized list tonight, along with lots of other Frey communication. :) We have been learning about place value & base ten. Some photos of our work are included here. Also shown, is a flipbook that will come home this week in the resource pocket of each students daily binder. Lastly, I've listed some resources & videos for review! For phonics this week we are reviewing digraphs: sh, th, ch, & wh! I wanted to share the list we brainstormed together and some resources you can use at home (videos/songs). First day selfie! I’m really looking forward to this year with these kiddos! Checking out our classroom library & our flexible seating options (stability cushions, lap desks, camping chairs). These are some great books we read in our first week. They taught us about kindness, differences, acceptance, and making good choices. We had a rainy first week but we enjoyed some indoor recess & some Cosmic Yoga!
