Valentine's Exchange Field Trip Studying POINT OF VIEW with FRACTURED FAIRY TALES. We read several versions of Jack and the Beanstalk. We each played characters from the book in a court case: Jack Vs. The Giant. In the end we determined Jack was wrong to climb up and steal from the Giant. The Giant wasn't as mean as he appeared. There was just a simple communication issue. Jack couldn't understand what exactly the Giant meant by "Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!" SCAVENGER HUNT Open the PDF document below to complete the scavenger hunt over the break. This was also sent home on a red sheet of paper prior to the break. Prizes are being awarded.
We are eagerly awaiting the Frey ES chicks! Love this display that reminds them of the stages and also builds suspense! We read 3 versions of Cinderella: an African version, a Chinese version, and a version set in space. We then typed a letter to a fellow second grader recommending our favorite version. Students had to state their opinion, give 3 supporting reasons, and restate their opinion. This chart is such a good reminder for capitalization rules! I would add that we use capitals in letter writing also. Each letter begins and closes with a capitalized word (Dear & Sincerely). Spelling Words- Week of 2/11/19 We meet in small groups weekly to work on decoding and/or comprehension strategies.
Building monuments to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. & Jackie Robinson! We loved exploring the new makerspace! Learning to add or subtract 10s and 100s from a 3-digit number. We had so much fun writing on the classroom floor with dry erase crayons! We are learning about the characteristics of a fairy tale! We practiced retelling Jack and the Beansttalk to a partner! Be sure to check out the February calendar. The PTSA has been hard at working prepping for the upcoming dance! We will have a field trip on Feb. 14th to see Beauty and the Beast at the ballet. Permission slips went home at the beginning of the school year. On Monday 2/5/19, I will send home another copy to those who have not returned them. Please get them back to me by 2/9/19. Please have students eat a hearty breakfast on the day of the field trip because we will not have lunch until about 1:00pm when we return to school. If there’s time after our field trip we will celebrate Valentine’s Day. If not, we will do it on 2/15/19. If you plan to send Valentines, please send enough for all 20 students in our class. Students can sign their Valentines, but it’s helpful if they do not address them to individual students. They are able to pass them out much faster if they don’t have to worry about specific classmates getting specific treats. Thanks for your cooperation. Check out the new library for Valentine’s books on GetEpic.com. Next week we will start silent letters. We will start with kn & gn. The following week we will do mb & wr words.
