Hope you survived all the Halloween festivities & the time change! Here's what's coming up this week.... Phonics: This week we will cover the oi/oy spelling pattern. Typically “oi” is found in the beginning (oil) or middle (voice) of a word. “Oy” is usually found at the end of a word (destroy) or syllable (voyage). Reading: We will continue to ask and answer questions about nonfiction texts. Here are some examples…
Grammar: We will start possessive nouns! Writing: Students are continuing to work on nonfiction writing pieces. They are learning to spread large topics like soccer across several pages. For example… equipment, rules, positions, famous players, etc. Students are also learning to write detailed & sequential “how to” writing pieces. Math: We will be working on subtraction within 100 using place value strategies. These strategies include Hundreds Chart Chelsea, Base Ten Timmy, Number Line Lucy, and Break It Down Bethany. Social Studies: Students will describe the Georgia Creek and Cherokee cultures of the past in terms of tools, clothing, homes, ways of making a living, and accomplishments. Students will compare how life was different then and now. We will also identify what regions of Georgia the Creek and Cherokee tribes settled in & why. Per Mr. Dryden's Weekly D-Brief.... Parents - We need your help. Please have a conversation with your kiddos about appropriate behaviors while eating lunch in the cafeteria. It's that time of year when we all need to come together and have discussions about what is acceptable & what isn't. Please help us reinforce the following: stay seated, raise your hand if you need assistance, talk with an appropriate voice to your neighbors, don't throw food, & clean up your trash. Thank you!!
