We are looking forward to a great Thanksgiving feast this week. Be sure to double check our time! If you’re checking your child out after the feast, please be sure to see me to sign them out. Thanks & can’t wait to see you all tomorrow. I want to say how grateful I am for your contributions during the canned food drive. Frey collected 5,102 cans! That will make a world of difference to those in need. Congrats to Mrs. Shumpert’s class who collected 871 cans! We wish them luck in the All-Star Kickball game! https://twitter.com/FreyFlames/status/1195445780850659328 AcademicsPhonics: We have covered contractions for a couple weeks. We’ve learned how to make them & how to read them in context. Determining where to write the apostrophe can be tricky, so this week we’ll practice spelling contractions. Reading: This week we will be doing a Native American readers theatre. This will help us learn to read with fluency, expression, and an appropriate volume. The kids are very excited about this activity! Grammar: We will keep going with possessive nouns. It can be tough to determine if a word is a contraction or a possessive noun so we will continue to work on this skill and also try implementing them in our writing. Math: We are working on two step addition & subtraction word problems with sums/differences of up to 20. Students should still use the CUBES strategy to solve these one step at a time. Social Studies: We will continue to learn about the Native Americans and how their lives were different than ours today. Homework:

Beginning Monday 11/1/19 all Dojo Points will return to ZERO! Typically I start over each quarter, but I gave a few bonus weeks this time. We will have some new prizes in our Dojo Club. See the slideshow below for an idea! Also, beginning Monday completed homework will be worth TWO points per day. Seems like we need some extra motivation to get that practice work completed! Phonics In phonics this week we will work on identifying words with inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences. For example, fear and bear have the same spelling pattern but they sound different. Another pair is cost and most. They are spelled the same, but again, sound different. Cost has a short o and most has a long o. You may notice your child's list has more words than usual because of the pairs. ReadingWe will be taking a look at different elements of poetry…. stanzas, rhyme, alliteration, rhythm, and repetition. We will be linking our social studies content by using Native American poems to study these elements. WritingWe will continue to work on nonfiction writing pieces such as information turkey writing, how-to pieces, or non-fiction pieces about Native Americans. MathWe will wrap up our on unit on two digit addition and subtraction with a week of repetition and challenges! Keeping practicing those addition and subtraction facts to 20 to help us breeze through two digit math and our upcoming 2 step word problems. Social StudiesWe will continue to study the Native Americans once found in Georgia- the Creek & Cherokee tribes. We will have an opportunity to use our non-fiction questioning skills to “interview” the Native Americans about their life back then! Soon we will start to learn about 4 important historical figures from that time period…. Sequoyah, Tomochichi, James Oglethorpe, and Mary Musgrove. Upcoming Dates:
