We're off to a wonderful start this semester! I know that quarters 3 & 4 will be our best yet! You've probably heard, but I'm excited to announce we've welcomed several new faces to our classroom. I will be sending home an updated class directory soon. Academics:Phonics: We are continuing with R-controlled words. This week’s pattern will be words with “or” such as corn, horse, acorn, etc. Spelling lists go home on Mondays. Reading: We are continuing to read different fairy tales, fables, and legends. We will recount stories and determine their central message, lesson, or moral. Some of their characteristics are shown below... Writing: Students will write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, and provide a concluding statement. We will continue to strengthen our writing by revising and editing with guidance from adults and peers. Math: This week's focus will be on adding 10 or 100 more to a number up to 1,000. We will also practice subtracting 10 or 100 from numbers to 1,000. Keep practicing those math facts to 20 on a daily basis. Social Studies: With the MLK Jr. Holiday coming up, we are continuing to learn about the life and contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr and his impact during the civil rights movement.
