Last week was Read Across America week & we had a blast reading and dressing up for theme days. Academics:Phonics: This week we are working on words ending with el, le, and al. Reading: In preparation for our Touchstone tests this quarter, we will work on comparing fiction & nonfiction texts this week. Students will compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic. Writing: We are continuing to work on opinion writing. We will tie in our grammar standard below by trying to write sentences that include more adjectives and adverbs to give our reader a better mental image. Grammar: We will work on producing, expanding, and rearranging complete simple and compound sentences. For example:
Math: In the fall we worked on adding pennies, nickels, and dimes. Now, were progressing to solving word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. Students will need to use the $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Science: We have studied the effects that humans (ie. deforestation), animals (ie. beaver dams), and weather (ie. flooding) have on the environment. We are wrapping up our unit on environmental changes. Next, we will be moving onto phases of the moon. Please make sure that you’re completing your moon phases journal over the next two weeks. They’re due on Friday, March 13th. Upcoming Dates:
